GCSE The Exam The GCSE Examination The exam is held in June each year. All candidates will take the same written two-hour exam paper and candidates are required to attempt all the questions. The written paper will represent 75% of the final mark. Each candidate will have to attend an exam centre to sit the written exam paper. You will need to make arrangements to attend an exam centre near your own home. Assistance will be given to candidates to find an examination centre which will accept external candidates. The exam fee varies between centres and is usually between £25 and £50, to be paid to your exam centre in January of the year you take the exam. Coursework Component In addition to the written exam paper candidates are required to undertake two simple practical projects during the course. A notebook or folder showing a record of this practical work is to be submitted for assessment during April in the year the exam is taken. The practical coursework component represents 25% of the final mark. Coursework titles suggested by the exam board are on the coursework page.
